Guide to creating the perfect CV

Producing a good CV is paramount !

A CV is often your one opportunity to get your foot in the door and to give somebody a reason to invite you for an interview. Therefore, it’s paramount that you take the time to get it right.

When it comes to CV’s, we believe the simpler the format, the better. Often the people you are applying to don’t have the time to read every word on every CV, so showcase the skills you have that line up with the job role in as simple a way as possible. Bullet points are your best friend!

Your CV should ideally be between 2 – 3 pages. If you have a long work history, display your recent roles and put a line at the bottom to say, ‘Details of previous work history can be provided on request’.

Your CV should always be in reverse order, with your most recent role first. If your education is the most recent, and it is relevant to the role you’re applying for, put that first.

Tailor your CV to the role you are applying for and include duties within your roles that are relevant. Also include a line in your personal statement that says what type of role you’re looking for, and make sure its related to the role you’re applying for.

Our preferred font is Calibri – font size 11pt for the body and font size 12pt bold for titles.

The number one rule above all else is to check, check and check again! No matter how often this is said, you’d be amazed at the number of errors we see on CVs. Once you’re done checking, get somebody else to have a look at it. A fresh pair of eyes can help to spot things you haven’t. Remember, this is your first impression, its really important you get it right!
